I have worked right here in Indian River County for the past 24 years of my 26-year law enforcement career. I started as a correctional officer and ascended through the ranks to become Captain, Major, and ultimately, Deputy Chief of the Indian River County Sheriff's Office.
MILO THORNTON
As Sheriff of Indian River County, I promise to be tough on crime and keep our homes and businesses safe! I will work closely with community leaders to address the issues that matter. I will also ensure that everyone is treated fairly and justice is served. I will strive to make Indian River County a better place to live, work and play.
Our children deserve to go to school without the fear of violence. I will work with School Leaders and the School Board to make sure there are safety measures in place and action plans to protect our students. We must also ensure that students receive the necessary mental health support and resources to identify problems and react quickly. We must also teach our students how to recognize and respond to potential threats and to always put safety first. Finally, we must create an environment where students feel safe and respected.
Our citizens need to know that if they need us, we will be there, and we will be there fast when they call 911! We have a responsibility to ensure that our emergency services are well-equipped to handle any situation. We must ensure that our officers are properly trained and have the necessary resources to respond quickly and efficiently.
My top priority will be for every part of Indian River County to enjoy the highest level of public safety and the peace and prosperity that comes with it. I will lead a highly professional Indian River Sheriff’s Office and will work with our local jurisdictions to achieve this objective. My track record in every aspect of law enforcement, including working with our counterparts at the state and federal level, have prepared me for this task. We must be engaged throughout our communities and, as much as possible, stop crime before it happens. And we will never shy away from enforcing the law. We’ve seen the disastrous results in cities across the country when law enforcement doesn’t do its job.
I will fight to reduce drug-related crimes and seek long-term solutions to protect our youth from the flood of Fentanyl. I will work to ensure that those struggling with addiction can access the support and resources they need. I will also advocate for tougher penalties for drug dealers to discourage the illegal drug trade and keep our communities safe
Unfortunately, crime is an ever-developing landscape in America. Our deputies must be trained on the latest threats and develop operational procedures to combat them. I will work to make sure that they have the latest training and resources to meet the demand!
Cybercrimes are on the rise in Florida. We must train personnel to meet these bad actors on their playing field and hold them accountable. We need the latest in cybercrime software and training to provide people with justice, regardless of where the attack comes from!
